The Snail DX - A Game Boy Color Style Rogue-lite

You are an adventurer searching for treasure in a deep cave, but your greed will not go unpunished. As you try to escape with your treasure you will have to avoid traps, find keys to ascend, buy items to assist your navigation, and avoid the mysterious snail! Can you make it out alive in this Game Boy Color style rogue-lite?

This DX version of the original game "The Snail" features many upgrades and improvements! These improvements include:

- Fully coloured sprites and backgrounds that change as you progress

- The Snail now gets faster as you ascend, making the difficulty increase slightly in each run

- New upgrade system where you can purchase items using the coins you collect from the cursed merchant

- 8 trophies (achievements) to collect!

The Snail DX also retains the features from the previous version:

-High Score System

-Randomly Generated Levels

-Unlockable Endless mode

-Multiple Endings

-Original art and music

-Auto saves everytime the title screen loads

I am a solo game dev making Game Boy styled games as a hobby. This game was made in GB Studio by Chris Maltby. The Snail and The Snail DX were projects I made to test how random generation could work in GB Studio.

August 21, 2022 Version 1.2 Update!

I added a small feature that allows the game to save on cartridges that do not have a battery, and I also made the scene transitions fade to black instead of white (I thought that would fit the setting better). Enjoy!
